What Is Bayanihan? Helping others they don't even know , and for no apparent reason , other than " because helping feels good ". It still happens. I still see it here & there. May it be forever & ever . I'm encountering these mainly at the Yolanda/Haiyan-devastated areas of Region 8, with the help that keeps pouring in from everywhere, from all walks of life, in all forms . Bayanihan Misnomer ! I just realized, many of us (yes, me included) thought/thinks that bayanihan is about "lipat-bahay" or heavy manual labor things associated with constructing or building. All because, we saw in our school textbooks; we saw on broadsheet editorials; that bayanihan was always portrayed like this: mga taong pasan-pasang ang isang bahay! My Negros Oriental Tour: Guihulngan City This is a city! And like Canlaon I said “why is this a city?”. Ah, them legislators have a collectively weird trend of thought so we better leave them to it. Fact is, this is one such city in my list where I have not seen (on the web) anything worth visiting at city center other than the nearby beach resorts which are of course nothing to harp about if you consider the places in this country that I have been to. Well, if I was harping in previous blogs why Cabadbaran, Borongan or Tabuk are cities, check this place out hehe! It can easily pass as a barangay of Baybay, Bogo, Catbalogan, Naga, Carcar or even Mati and Tayabas! Nah, if you thought I meant that for a negative remark, it is in fact the reverse. This place is just too tranquil and quiet a place, away from the bustling urbanities. Yet, it is called a city! What else can you ask for?! Pink Sisters, My Cebu Experience

What place comes to mind when you hear the phrase "Pink Sisters"? Hmm, yes, Baguio, then Tagaytay - in that order, right?! But did you know there is also such a monastery in Cebu? Ah, well, not really Cebu City since it is already a few steps away from the boundary. It is in Mandaue City. Yep, that is the 'Adoration Convent of Divine Peace' - a monastery for nuns clad in pink habit, reason why its called 'pink-sisters' and I think you know all about that part, right?! Anyway, this convent (and chapel of course - that's my topic in the first place) sits in an urban neighborhood that is by the boundary of two barangays both named Banilad. Yep, Barangay Banilad, Cebu City and Barangay Banilad, Mandaue City! And that is along AS Fortuna Ave., - the famed strip where many notable restaurants and branches of virtually every bank in this country are located with or without ATMs!
