Lonely Flag Retreat

Witnessed this as I wandered around Cagayan De Oro's Lumbia Airport vicinity.

An unceremonious ceremony - the flag retreat! Not even that man in blue cared...
Just the two of them (lady-guard and airport police?) lowering and folding OUR flag. At least I stood at attention as I watched them and took these photos! And in my head I sang... then whispered "ang mamatay ng dahil sayo"! And I think I really meant it!

What's the drama here? Well, pardon me lowly brain if I am outdated. But until this incident, what I remember of flag ceremonies is that people sing (or there is the National Anthem music) and all stand at attention looking in that direction. Everything supposedly stops in reverence of the symbol of our sovereignty!

Not nowadays I realize. Oh well... a sign of our modern times.

  1. I'm guessing some people weren't educated enough of how they should show respect when our own flag is being retreated or raised.
