Alright folks, this should be the last story of my Cagayan Valley Travel. Since some of you are requesting for a step-by-step "how to" on flying from the Cauayan City Airport, telling you how I departed this morning will pretty much sum it up!
This was the first time I flew out of CYZ (Cauayan City Airport) in the new millennium. Yey! This airport only "fairly recently" re-opened to commercial air traffic. Something like 6 or 7 years ago hehe. But I have been here a few times before, when PAL still regularly flew to this city, until it stopped during the 1998~1999 economic crisis.
Anyway, I was excited to have departed from this airport today. As I said above, first time I did so in the modern era! Just flew out, I did not fly in, since I landed in Tuguegarao from Manila a few days ago, remember?!
I took a tricycle from The Hotel Andrea on Cancillar Avenue to CYZ. This airport is very near city center - probably just about 3 or so kilometers.
Somehow, there was a bit of nostalgia as the trike ambled along the road and I passed by familiar places. Like this one...
That is what they call "Rizal Park". This park looked & felt wide in those days. Now it is but an island surrounded by wide concrete roads. The yellow arrow points to the statue of your national hero! Yes, Dr. Jose Paciano Rizal. Oh ha? Memorized ko buong pangalan!
Argh! Bakit naman kasi kulay kahel pa ang 'windshield' ng tricycle na ito!
Down there... left side of road (red arrow) is a hotel called Ocho Rios and/or Hotel Alta. They were the "pwede na" hotels in the '80s, and if they're still alive now, its not for you, I'm telling you hehehe!
Right side (blue arrow), where the trees are? That is what I remember as the "abangan" (waiting area) for jeeps and buses going south, as far as Metro Manila :)
Ayan na! I thought my avid fans were out on the highway waiting for me!
They're waiting for their rides lang. And when it arrives, everybody runs for it! Unahan!
This has been like so for the past many decades. Well, some things never change...
Depending on your strength and stamina, sometimes it takes long to get a ride here...
Teka, by the way, none of them is going to the airport ha?! Patalastas ko lang yun on featuring them, dahil nadaanan eh! They are going way far than just the airport. Many would usually be going as far as Metro Manila that takes anywhere from 8 to 10 hours.
This here is about 1km from the above. Well yes, things have improved around here...
Look, there is already a signage (yellow arrow)
before the corner! So, you turn right over at the corner with the stoplight (blue arrow) if you are going to the airport.
Yes turn right at that corner where you see the RC Cola billboard...
But the better landmark is this building on the right, yes its the corner, and yes that is San Miguel Beer. Turn right going to the airport, and salivate at the thousands of bottles of beer that you will see loaded on big trucks or piled in crates as tall as the building itself!
Interestingly, right after this SMB depot are so many videoke bars on both sides of the road and right next to each other! I wonder how this area 'sounds like' during the evening!
Moving onwards, you cannot be lost.
This is a suburban village and the way to the airport is obvious
Many are ongoing constructions here and there...
All the more leading you to the terminal building.
You'll know you are there when a guard uses his mirror to inspect your vehicle...
Which I find so... sooo... ah whatever! This means you are inside the airport compound.
Ah these two signages I really like! Very user-friendly hehehe
Instead of saying "Arrival" or "Departure" talagang tinagalog at ang isinulat ay ang pakay ng karamihan na pumupuntang airport hahaha! Arrival = SUNDO, Departure = HATID, oo nga naman ano?!
Point of view not of the passenger but the non-passenger public (in the multitudes of them) who make our airports congested hehehe hehehe! Now, if you still can't understand that, you better not be at the airport hehehe!
Oh okay, so I entered the terminal building to check-in.
This end of the building (right side) is departure area, while the left end is arrival area. And my trike could go where other 4-wheeled vehicles would. Mabuti. No discrimination.
Oops, no pictures at the check-in counter area. I don't know why. Maybe I got busy checking-in that I forgot to take pics? Or maybe the check-in area is too small that it was crowded so I could not snap photos? Or maybe I just did not like to! Anyway...
This is the pre-departure area now...
Looks dark on the camera as outside is too bright with the sun. But we can see and we can say, this should be one of the few airports that has curtains :) Just looking at them, I already felt like sneezing hehe! What about this yellow and green colored thing on the foreground? Ahh, how do we call that at home, sala set? Yes ganun!
Ayan, medyo clearer. These are upholstered sofas with matching center table!
Who gets to sit on them? Well, just about anyone who wants to. This is not as if a business class lounge hehe. Art lang! For those who can't bear sitting on those rigid alumninum and/or plastic chairs!
Here's an example... I was so amused looking at these kids
They were silently "busy" (with their gadgets) the whole time they sat there hehe! Well, di pahuhuli si mommy, busy rin on her own technology management session hehe!
And finally my flight was boarded...
From the stairs, I turned back and saw that only one more passenger behind me was about to board. Ayan, si Ate, oist hoyst, itigil mo na yan 'te, baka madapa ka!
And the rest is history! Haay, ang saya hano?!
