Cagayan North International Airport: Lal-lo
Me ganun? Yes meron! And I only learned about it today, when I already passed by the very said airport itself. Incredible! Here's my story...
As the van continued its southbound trip from Sta. Ana to Tuguegarao, I enjoyed viewing the vast ricefields around the town of Gonzaga. Plus the harvested palay laid out to sun-dry on kilometers and kilometers of road all the way to Sta. Teresita and Lal-lo, I think.
Then I saw this building a bit distant from the highway, and I asked my driver "ano yan"?The casual reply was "yung bagong International Airport sir". Yes, my chinky eyes opened wide, my eyeballs almost spilling out to the floor! Hahaha yes, luwa ang mga mata ko!
Of course I expected my driver to also say "para sa mga intsik". But I could not resist, napa-google ako! Ang gastos naman sa "data" ng biyaheng ito! I had to check many things online and pronto, just to satisfy my curiosity! Pero sige na lang, aliw e!
Here are what I got so far... a news report from June last year says this airport was said to start operations last December. Eh April na ngayon! Well, maybe they just said "start of operations" - meaning the airport is operating or operable, but no flights hehe. My driver says, actually they have seen a number of small planes fly in/out, but probably VIPs.
This is a 42/58 sharing for 50 years - where CEZA (or government) has 42% share while Cagayan Land Property Development Corporation (CLPDC) has 58%. Hmm, therefore, this thing is now a privately owned property and for the next 50 years. Who is CLPDC? Di kaya mga insik din ang "behind" nyan? We'll see later!
The runway is 2.1 kilometers long. Hmm, pwede sa Airbus A319 or A320 just like those that now fly from Manila to many cities. Will initially cater (daw) to flights from/to Japan, Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong and China. Sabay dugtong na "this will complement Port Irene". Aruu, I wonder sino from Japan, Singapore or Taiwan will be coming to Lal-lo in planeloads, aber? What market have they (CEZA) attracted to realize those flights?
Pwede pa siguro yung China, yun na nga, yun mga mag-ka-casino; and Hong Kong na probably mga galing mainland din flying from HKG to Lal-lo. Ang makabuang ani Bai, if this is "to complement Port Irene" (ano, maghahakot din ng junk cars?) why did they make this in Lal-lo, which is probably 90 to 100kms from Sta. Ana?
Another palaisipan is, this "Cagayan North International Airport" or CNIA is outside of the economic zone (nadaanan ko yung arch kanina di ba?), so why build it here, in a vast rice field in the middle of nowhere? Unless they were thinking of making Lal-lo and Gonzaga to be part of the "zone" but resisted? hehehe, guessing game tayo dyan!
But as for now, the damn thing is finished, and looks beautiful from afar (no I did not go near). Kelan kaya magkaka-flight? Aber... let's wait and see!
