Anguib Beach
Finally arrived after half an hour of my boat tossing and bobbing in the waves, haha!
Is this beach really good as others say? Yes, lovely on its own merits!Nope, that is not the end of the sand. At that point, it curves a bit to the left and continues its wonderfully long stretch of a fine sandy beach!
This does not need to be compared to other beaches in the country or in the world just to have its own name embedded in the hearts and minds of those who seek paradise. That is also not the other end of this beach. It curves circling that hill, and behind that, is still yet another long stretch of white sandy beach, but (I think) already called by a different name hehe!
No need to call this the blah of the blah. Just call it "Anguib", in Sta. Ana, CagayanAdd your superlative descriptors, fine. But no need to compare Anguib to any beach.
Anguib is definitely not "Boracay of the North" that many claim it to be. Way far. Not that it is any less attractive than Boracay. I can even dare say, there are distinct and beautiful advantages of Anguib compared to Boracay, depending on what one is looking or longing for. I can point some of them to you, if you wish! Like...
First, Anguib has no "emerald" to "yellow-green" colors near the edge of the water. As I have said in many a Boracay discussions, the seemingly beautiful yellow-green color is actually an indicator that the shoreline water is dirty or contaminated with algae associated to things we don't like such as "wastes". THAT is Boracay now, unfortunately.
First pa lang yan... ano, titigil na ako? I better! hehe
O sige, isa na lang... Anguib is still beautifully rural. And, that means a lot of things like... you do not see platoons of women asking people (you cannot hide from them) if they want a massage. Then there are those who sell "pearl" kunohay hehe, those selling sunglasses, icedrop, caps and hats, pamaypay, bimpo, selfie sticks, etc., etc., - all of them walking back and forth on the sand. Istorbo! You can't really have peace and quiet in the fantastic sands of Boracay - unless you hid in your 5-star hotel room.
Ano, hihirit pa? Wag na! But I am telling you, this is CLEANER than Boracay!
How rural is Anguib? Just look at these...
Ah, well, there are a few kinks here. For example, the P100 entrance fee per person is way too high for most Filipinos, since there is virtually nothing but 'nature' here. And the adjoining portion (same quality of beach) has no entrance fee! Hmm, maybe the owner of this strip of land, or the LGU? are over-zealously capitalizing on the popularity of those 'Survivor' episodes shot here-arounds. Then again, it might actually help preserve the laid-back ambiance of this place - mahal ang entrance plus mahirap puntahan!
Mahirap puntahan? Well yes for me. If at all it was not grueling, the waves were a bit duuuuu hehehe!
Ah before I forget, while I was idly sitting under a coconut tree, just looking out into the blue sea and the white sand... there suddenly was a roar of engines. Yes plural! As if a motorcade was approaching. For in fact it was!
Yes bikers, as in motorcycle riders who drove from Sta. Ana proper. Yes, drove. By land, that means! Hep hep, I said that in my previous story, right? That Anguib is part of mainland Luzon? Yes it is! But, the road is still not that good for regular vehicles (cars or trikes) say my boatmen. Then again, they are boatmen hehe! Y'know... protecting their interests...
If you have a motorbike though, you can visit paradise without passing by the big waves! I hear that road is actually being spruced up. So, goodbye boatmen hehe!
