Tuguegarao Cathedral

beautiful tuguegarao cathedral
Also called the St. Peter Metropolitan Cathedral, this is their center of the catholic faith and, purportedly the biggest in Cagayan Valley circa 1768. And this was the first place I visited. Why? Because, amongst those that I wanted to see, it is the nearest to Hotel Roma. An easy walk of about 200 meters, or even less, along a lively commercial area.

Well, it's long, tall and wide. Girls, kung kayo ikakasal, for maximum airtime, do it here! Your "here comes the bride" moment will take longer as its a rather far walk hehe!

The ceiling is different from many old churches I have seen. Instead of painted murals depicting biblical happenings, it is just a repetitive geometrically designed tiles that dominate above your head. Monotonic in fact. But I think I like it better. You the faithful is not distracted by so many characters and eventualities, so you instead just pray.

In fact, as I said in another blog story of long ago, yung sa Cebu nga di ba? Not just biblical characters or events, but, faces of politicians and such-and-such bigwigs are painted on the basilica's ceiling! Yun daw mga tumulong (or probably donated big amounts) in the refurbishment of that church. Aruu! KSP! So, I think this one is better.
