Arriving At Iloilo International Airport
On a domestic flight that is! I just came from Cebu this time hehe. But there is not much of a difference here. You just omit the immigration and customs arrival proceedings.
So here we were. I mean "they" my fellow passengers, getting out of the 'eroplano' and going to "arrive" at the airport. This place they are walking on is called the "aerobridge", that movable thing that physically conencts the airport to the airplane.
By the way, so you do not get confused, and for "dagdag kaalaman", the aerobridge has so many synonyms. It can be called an "airbridge", skybridge", "airtube", "jet bridge", "jetway", "jetwalk", "airgate", and many other names. They all mean the same thing.
And here we were making our way to the Arrivals Concourse... note its going down...The empty hallway to the left, is part of the boarding gate - where departing passengers will pass later when they are called to board their flight.
Then we reached the stairs going down to claim our check-in baggage...Oh, btw, in most well-thought-of airports, lagi magkakatabi ang 1) stairs, 2) escalators and 3) elevators - always the three of them - just for this purpose. You already know the reason why, right? Yeah, para walang nahihirapan.
Then the baggage claim area, where the baggage carousels are located (to the left)Yes, that is the moving conveyor belt where your luggage ride to meet you! Listen to the announcement before you get out of the plane - they usually tell you the number or letter of the conveyor belt where you should go to pick your lugagge.
For Iloilo, as you can see, its easy to find the carousel where your bags will come out since there are only two of those conveyor belts. Kung wala sa isa, te lantaw sa piyak ay!
Still on the above picture, notice too that there are doors to the right (after that big yellow advertisement). That leads to the arrival lobby, my next stop. Oh, and yes, akala nyo kayo lang? Nakita ko rin yan si Madam. Jusko Misis, ang ano mo, umaano oh!
And the Arrival Lobby! I always look at the tourism desk, to see new things...Ganda di ba? Daming infos and things to see! No it's not, but yes, daw tindahan 'no?!
At the arrival curbside, waiting for my "sundo", I turned around to take this pic...Yes, I came from in there - inside the guarded glass door is the arrival lobby.
Now you may be curious what are those five girls standing there for? Hmm, they must be employees of those "car hire" service desks. Yes those desks they are leaning on. When you emerge at this area, they start shrieking "limousine sir", "taxi sir", "rentacar sir" and things like those. They did that when I passed by them!
Ah, behind and above the girl in red shirt and girl in black jacket... ito yan...What is a Hotel Guests Lounge? It is an airconditioned area with TV and seats for people like me, waiting for transport service to, and arranged by, their respective hotels.
You are told to wait in there by hotel staff as they call the driver to come and get you at the curbside. But why did I just stand out here at curbside instead of waiting there?
Because... mabaho, amoy paa, yes tiil nga kabaho-baho! I saw uniformed employees (I don't know what company) also sitting there (tambay), most of them just wearing their undershirt (sando) since they took off their uniforms to avoid creasing. Two of them nakahiga pa! So, whose feet were smelly? Mal-e ko da, and why bother!
Btw, after the arrival picture above, I turned a bit to the right and snapped this photo...Sakto naman pag-daan ni Mr. "Hey Joe" hahaha, sorr sir, ayan I already covered part of your face to conceal that I knew you were aburido!
Anyway, this is supposed to be where you should be seen by those who came to this airport to fetch you. But how? Where are the people? How will they see you? Ayun o! Look at the right edge of the picture, behind Mr. Foreigner, by the face of that man following him. Yes, the blue post. That is where the general public awaits.
If I may, this arrangement or layout is tinonto gid! The authorities of this airport - probably salivating for more income - erected those structures on this curbside, which has segmented the otherwise continuous wide area for people to see each other.
Specifically, that is that white box-like structure with a glass window (ano na man? restaurant?) and the duty free store. Same with the Money Changer and the Hotel Guests Lounge. Everything in this area should be viewable by a human being from end to end.
Hay naku! Anyway, facing the parking area, a bit to the right, I saw where vehicles exitBut also saw the other end of the curbside where the public may also wait. But how will they see their passengers? Natatabunan, me naka-harang! Look at the right edge of this photo. You see that smiling guy in white shirt? That area, wide to his left and behind him, that is a waiting area too, BUT, those are all BEHIND the Hotel Guests Lounge and Money Changer! How will they be able to see passengers they are waiting for?
Ganda ganda ng airport eh, pinakiki-alaman naman ng mga nag-gagaling-galingan. Sana, in the future, when an architect makes a building, he/she should make the owners/occupants attest that they may not build any other structures than what was originally designed. In this particular case, just you wait, this Iloilo International Airport arrival area will spell chaos.
