Momoy Beach Resort

Potong, Lapinig, Northern Samar.

This was my next destination on this 'tour' of Northern Samar's Pacific Towns. And I stayed at this barangay's busier place (dadalawa lang naman sila!) - Momoy's Resort!
Not sure about the "correct nomenclature"! That billboard says Momoy Beach. Then I heard some friends call it "Sinulog Beach". But, the only two resorts in this location are beside each other - they are "Momoy Resort" and "Sinulog Resort". Ta, nga linop!

Nano ngaran san beach?!

Pending any "official clarification" (why do I sound so legal-minded today), why don't I just call this Potong Beach, since this is at Brgy. Potong, Lapinig, Northern Samar!

That way, in this story, I can say Momoy Beach Resort and Sinulog Beach Resort at Potong Beach. But I stayed at Momoy's, so my stories will mostly revolve around it.

Fact check: that is Momoy's Resort behind the signage. Sinulog Resort is to our left but you walk by a pathway at right going to the beach itself, continue walking on the sand (sorry ka kung high tide!) heading left, passing via Momoy's entire beachfront!

Kumbaga, the road ends at Momoy's. Going to Sinulog, you skirt around the Momoy property. What if me sasakyan ka? Aw, di ko inalam. Sa Momoy's ako eh 'no? Hehe!

So let's talk about Momoy's. As said above, that's where I stayed - and happily!
That, at photo center (and it is at center of the resort's cottages too), was my 'home' for the entire stay at Potong! Yes it's Nathalie's-style: native materials, and in 2 levels.

Ground level is (of course) your 'party' area, good for a battalion of singers hahaha!
Upstairs (can you see the ladder beside the video-singko machine?) is the "room", also enough for the same battalion that you have downstairs! They provide mats for that.

That is the "style" I have observed, to be common in these pacific towns of Northern Samar. Their "accommodations" are mostly for families and/or communities heheh!

Although there are, you do not easily find something that's good for just one or two. But you can't make that stop you from availing of their services, even if you're alone.

Why? Because they do not cost much. So, solohin ang buong cottage. What's 1,500 for the experience of staying in this place, right? So ayan, akin lahat yan! Mataphaw!

You can see my backpack, shoes, etc., I virtually "lived" within those four corners of the ground level - to the bewildered curiosity of groups & families at other cottages.

Why? Because I had a lot of space. I even snoozed 'on top' of that veeery long table! And I did not even once touch that microphone - kahit kunan nyo pa ng finger prints!

But I did ask some of those kids from the adjacent cottage to come and sing, since theirs didn't have one. They were a big group of people from Japan (Jipapad bawo)!

FYI, not all cottages have that video-singko pre-installed. But the owners will bring in one if you request so. And only 2 cottages (so far) have the upstairs 'living quarters'.

Oh, still on that picture above, I took that from the ocean side. So to the left edge of that photo is the entrance. And that cottage back there (aw, front there) is reception!

Ito. You go to this reception cottage to pay, or arrange for anything and everything!
That is left once you enter the gate. The whole area is where you park your vehicles. You see those two people in there? They are the jolly owners who will attend to you.

Yep, this husband-and-wife team happily does everything for you and all guests. Aw, I made some notes on that same picture above, so you do not keep on asking them.
Notice there's a perimeter fence at right. That's of/by Sinulog Resort. They closed it there, so there is no other way to them, than walk all around Momoy's via the ocean!

They probably have zoning issues. Wag na nating pag-atreviran yan kung bakit!

The tindahan is where you'd find the husband-and-wife if they are not at the above.
Note: this is still a rural hideaway, so don't expect everything in your whims to be all available at that little hut. There are bigger sari-sari stores outside, just a walk away.

You can see at the back is the perimeter wall of Sinulog Resort. Oist, there are cute-looking tiny cottages there. Yun tipong room accommodation na tulugan lang talaga.

Ibang cottage pa yung meron long tables and benches para sa kantahan at kainan.

A manong that I asked there said their cute 'teepee-style huts' can accommodate 4 to 6. Da! Tinawag ko tuloy tiny ang good for 6. Anlalaki kasi nung sa Momoy hehe!

Sinulog's may have been ideal for me (solo), but the "inaccessibility" turned me off. I even learned they have 'air-con' rooms at 2.5k. Who told me? Aw, Momoy's owners!

When they told me that, I said "bakit itinataboy nyo ba ako"? They said "hindi naman, nagpapaliwanag lang". They're such a fun couple to interact with. Very much "on the ground" with no pretensions. Reason probably why big excursion groups love them.

Eh, I even saw the wife dancing with the group from Japan (Jipapad)!

Ay, speaking of that group from Japan, it started to rain when they were leaving. Ah!
I worried a bit for them as there were kids in that group and they had few umbrellas.

But all were cheerful, even boisterous as they set out on that truck for a 15km run!
The Momoy owners told me they'll be fine. I learned from them too: Jipapadnons (or the people of Japan, aw Jipapad pala!) frequently come to this resort for their 'R&R'.

Ah okay, for those who are not familiar, in these neighboring towns (from Oras up to Gamay), people jokingly call Jipapad as Japan, due to similar letters in their names.

Being a landlocked hinter town, the nearest place for them to see "dagat" is Lapinig. Big trucks (please be safe) are apt for big groups as people need to bring everything!

Yeah, virtually everything. I saw that truck had a lot of plastic containers, water jugs, utensils, food, kaldero, kaserola, and that walang kamatayang 'trolley videoke' thing!

Which brings us to an important topic: food and/or drinks. There's none at Momoy's nor Sinulog, other than what you see at their tiny tindahan or walkable outside stores.

Guests here, as with the previous others that I checked-in to in Palapag and Gamay, bring their food and everything else needed to eat or drink or even cook. Everything!

There are also no nearby restaurants nor eateries. Mga baryo pa ito. Operating those kinds of establishments are not (yet) deemed sustainable. Meanwhile, be creative!

Lastly, transport to/from resorts in this province is mostly "commandeer your own"! I took the "scooter" way since I was alone. What if there were 3 or 4 of you? That too, requires 'brain'! This isn't like Mactan or Alona, where you can commute any minute.

Alright, that's about all of Momoy's that I can remember. But where's the beach?!

Aw, let's talk about it, plus more in my next story. Coming up soon. Pramis!
