Sunday Mass At Gamay Church

I came chauffeured c/o Sonny, you know that from my last story! So, I arrived here:
He wanted to drop me off at walking paths on either side, so I would be nearer. But I requested that I be 'ejected' here! He instantly got it and even said aw picture-picture!

That's the St. Michael the Archangel Parish Church of Gamay Northern Samar. The park likely belongs to the church, as with many towns and cities in the Philippines. I say that because there is the statue of St. Michael the Archangel in the very middle.

Notice that where that statue stands is a street, but I guess not for big vehicles:
I went to that 'plaque' (or whatever that is called), expecting I would read something about San Miguel or the parish or why he is the patron saint. Aruy, wara mana wara!

It's just a very detailed, meticulously written monument of "epality"! Hahaha, oo hindi lang politicians ang epal sa atin! It's part of our culture, salamat ke Padre Damaso?!

That engraved metallic thing is but a litany of names, kesyo sila daw nag-donate for the beautification and renovation ng church plaza. Well, nasa paa sila ni San Miguel!

Hahaha! Do you know ano/sino ang inaapakan ni San Miguel De Arcanghel?

Seriously, inikot ko pa ang monument na yan.., wala talagang anything na nakasulat except yun na nga! Haba ng listahan, siksikan na sa ibaba, pero walang San Miguel!

Part of history yan, na that has been the way of our mga ninuno circa "in the year of our Lord nineteen hundred and ninety two"! Uunahin talaga mga pangalan nila. Epal!

Well these are modern times. After I took that picture at left, I asked Google Gemini "sino yan". Ay, I got all that I needed to know about him in the monument, plus more!

Example? St. Michael the Archangel is a highly revered figure in Christianity, Judaism and Islam! In the Qur'an, he is Mika'il or Mikail or Mikal, dabarkads ni Jibril (Gabriel)!

O di ba?!

Tara let's enter the church for the 7AM first mass. Oo ala-syete ang first mass nila!
But it was only 0645H. I was too early. Si manong lay minister nga, nasa labas pa o!

Oh I saw something at right that was worth watching, so I went for it!

Naudlot ang video recording! Had to make way for these ladies on this narrow path!
Other church-goers followed them, so I thought my short take was a video enough!

At least I've seen that activity, live and real, because there's no towering kampanaryo in this simbahan. Not many of us see that, since they're usually far from public view.

But not in Gamay. They're just down by the side of the church! I made a shorts!

Oist, not drama, but as I watched that boy, what came to my mind was Crispin. Yes, si Crispin, kapatid ni Basilio, bunso ni Sisa. Don't you remember them? Chapter 15!

Anyway, I eventually entered when I sensed that the service was about to start...
Hmm, for a 7AM Sunday service in a provincial town, parang napaka-konti ang tao. I told my self saying 'wag judgemental, baka the whole of Gamay attends the 2nd mass!

But I actually like attending masses where the church or chapel is not crowded!

Good I entered before mass started, and there were not many eyes glancing at me.
Imagine that.., from my 'last pew' position, I was able to appreciate, and even take a photo of one of their "stations of the cross" up at the clerestory. I'm happy I got that!

Those 'stations' are too high up, but each circular artwork (mural) is huge and nicely depicted with colors, so they are still unmistakable to our human eyes at floor level!

Oh that one is "Jesus is Nailed to the Cross", sure ako dyan! What would that be, the 11th station? Hmm, if you're facing the altar, that mural is rearmost right corner, and 6th from the front. But, di ba 14 lang stations? Ata ambot, ayoko mag-mathematics!

Anyway, I like it that the murals aren't really stained glass. They're (all) painted glass. 'Stained' is more expensive and kind of "abstract art", while 'painted' is cheaper and "realist art" where more color shades are possible, and lines can be finer and softer.

Pero mahal pa rin yan ha?!

Marites: I heard sometime ago, that a church at one town is planning on something like that "stations of the cross", they are soliciting cash donations, 100k isang bilog!

If there are 14 stations of the cross, sa 100k isa, atara 1.4m na agad!

Well, kung meron lang naman magdo-donate. Ayan sa Gamay, nagawa naman o! Di nga lang natin alam magkano yan. Kaya, kahit hindi maraming nagsisimba hehehe!
I took that picture by the way, at 7:42AM, towards the end of the Sunday First Mass.

I liked this morning service.

But, I wasn't able to do my usual picture-dito-picture-dun! After mass kasi, there were still people that seemed to be preparing some seremonyas. Nahiya ako umentra eh!

So, I have no "altar" nor "priest's view" pictures, unlike at Palapag or Mapanas.

Well, there is always a next time.

Meaning babalik ako dito?

Dapat lang. Soon!

Meanwhile, let's roam around town.

In my next entry na.
