Potong Beach Sights & Scenes

This is a beautiful beach, still a daily tableau of the "rural life-and-recreation"!
Potong Beach, is not (yet) that much publicized, thus, not in the bucket-list of many a traveler, and I think I like it that way (greedy ba?), but by-and-by, it is getting 'found'!

If not yet widely-known, how did I know about this place? Ah eh, I have my ways, let me count the ways... hehehe! Honestly, I saw this last year, while at Sunrise Resort.
By my guesstimate, Sunrise Resort will probably be somewhere at that yellow arrow, or probably even nearer. My green arrow points to Momoy and Sinulog resorts area.

Learning about Momoy and Sinulog, I bucket-listed them. After a year, here na me!

Oy it looks like, and very similar to other beaches, like Binogawan for one. The sand here is just lighter in color. But another place, another experience - that's the essence!

The essence of "travel pa more", di ba?!

Oh, what I loved about this visit was the realization that there were not many people that came from distant lands. So activities happening were generally by/of residents.

Here's a clip I recorded shortly upon arrival:

The most that I saw who were obviously 'from outside' of Potong, was that cheerful group from Japan. Aw yes Jipapad, as I have described them in the previous article!

Now now.., a pleasant pastime I always do when I'm traveling alone: I just sit and/or walk around an area watching, observing, absorbing, understanding, relating things.

Example: JFF (just for fun), I likened Potong Beach to a University (of Nature).

Every part of this beach, everywhere I looked, there was always something to learn from, or things other people were learning/mastering. That's education in/by nature!

Di ba aliw?!

This paradise is only 2 blocks away (about a hundred meters) from the highway.
Yep, the easiest way is to enter at that street across the southern end of Potong ES. Do you know what ES means? That's Elementary School. Almost all schools use ES!

This beach strip has other names that confuses visitors (like me), although also not yet too popular. Some will call it Momoy Beach, while others will say Sinulog Beach.

Momoy is a resort on this beach - that, was my topic in the previous article. In much the same way, Sinulog is a resort beside Momoy - and I peeped at it during my walk.
That's the entire beachfront of Sinulog which is probably even only half of Momoy's.

And Momoy's is only some 50 meters of the sand, while the entire beach is probably 2 kilometers long. Therefore, it is preposterous to call the beach Momoy or Sinulog.

Na! Nakialam nanaman ang iyong Pinoy Traveler. Galit pa yata! Hahaha, that is what happens when, the traveler is a process & quality review professional! Paki-alamero!

Hahaha! Atrevida talaga!

Actually, I think I already said this... bago mo ipagmalaki ang isang lugar, be sure of at the very least, its real name. So as of now, 'di pa rin ako sure kung Potong Beach yan.

Ahh hahaha! I think locals (therefore their visitors too) are into this binisaya habit of shortcut pronunciations. Like saying Momoy Beach instead of Momoy Beach Resort.

Di ba? Ang tawag nila sa DSWD is just "DS"; and DPWH is just "DP"; pati nga OVP na abbreviated na (for office of the vice president), eh ang tawag ng karamihan is "OV"!

"Pasahe mano, dida la kami ha OV, an may libreng sakay". Like that!

How did I deduce that? Why is my analogy like that? Ganito..,
While planning, I asked a friend saying "tell me more about Sinulog Beach."
Ang sagot "aw, okay yan, ayos ang Momoy Beach, you can stay there."

Me: no, I want to experience the sand at Sinulog Beach.
Friend: [after a pause] magkatabi lang yan eh.
Me: ilang kilometro ang pagitan? kung kasinlayo ng Sunrise, Sunrise na lang ako.
Friend: [after humalakhak] pader lang ang pagitan ni Momoy at Sinulog!

Da! After ko matulala ng sandali, I therefore concluded that: when locals say "Beach", it can actually mean "Resort"! Not as in White Beach, Bulabog, Diniwid or Tambisan!

Here's a corroborating evidence: at that sari-sari store outside Momoy's, the friendly tindera asked "hain ka, Momoy Beach kon Sinulog Beach?" Eh, pader lang ang pagitan nila paano naging kanya-kanyang beach ang mga yun? So that's what it means pala!

Somehow, somewhere along the way.., Beach is getting to be a synonym of Resort!

Now, 'di pa rin matatahimik si process-reviewer solsoltant angalyst! I have not heard anyone say Potong Beach when they should diba? I did hear someone say "baybay".

But "baybay" is a common noun, just like kalsada, bayan, probinsya, bansa. I should take it upon my royal highness to be the first to put names in their proper perspective.

I will henceforth call it Potong Beach - where Momoy and Sinulog resorts are found.

Let's proceed!

Momoy and Sinulog are 'busiest' as far as the number of people and activities (and dogs!) are concerned. But farther north, like the first 2 pics above, is empty like this:
The sheer abundance of "sand art" indicates that Sand Bubbler Crabs do their 'work' here without much disturbance from humans, at least until the scooter riders come!

Do you still remember Sand Bubbler Crabs? And the cleanest sand? You should!

That northern end of the beach, however, has no houses, structures or anything like that. So, be cautious if you must venture into that area, especially late afternoons or evenings. If there are no dangerous humans lurking, how about animals or wakwak!

Pwedeng ahasin ka ng mga ahas dyan! O, sagparakan ka sin kadanggaban, ayiyiii!

But daytime... adto didto an mag-uruyab! Plus those studying how to drive scooters! Often, they are one-and-the-same. Like si dalaga tinuturuan ni binata magdrive. Aru!

I also saw... si binata tinuturuan ni bayot mag-drive! Ayii hira, kalaw-ay!

But I observed, the sand here is firm and compact during lowtide. Tough enough for motorcycles, even bicycles to run well. Similar to the sand at Mika's but not at Araw.

Still at that northern end, I got to try out some shots without curious onlookers!
That is one and the same coconut tree. Verdict: my phone's camera is pakialamera! It adjusts the colors and/or lights "without asking my permission". Often, too much!

Hey at sundown, there was a dramatic drop of yellow light on the sand form behind.
But let that remain in my brain. Either di ko alam mag-kodak or jologs ang phone ko!

Speaking of photos, 'the morning after' (0455H), the hidden sunrise was still colorful!
But I still wasn't happy with my pictures. Not sure if it was earth or my phone or me!

Oh FYI, one important "must do" on this pacific trip was capturing sunrise, everyday! And that, was the last. Well ok nalang, a childhood barkada cousin came with these:
Salukara! Syempre drop everything tayo pag ganyan and I devoured nearly all of that!

Shortly before 6AM I saw this activity at the parked boat not far from my cottage:
I knew this was something for me to witness, although I told my self ang aga naman ng araw dito! 5:57AM, it was already warm shiny bright! But curiousity said go & see!

Oh fish! Fresh from the net, to be delivered to the market. But residents from nearby homes were already around to buy. What a fantastic snippet into our daily rural life!

That was two separate activities transpiring, mismo on the beach!

Four men on the boat were busy painstakingly removing their catch from the net...
I went near and saw that it's not easy to detach fish from where they're stuck on the net. It requires method & steady hands, otherwise you'll mangle the fish into pieces.

The small ones were selling briskly right on the beach only a few feet from the boat, while big ones were being carried away (to the market?) by one of their companions.
I asked that dear lady why the bigger-sized fish were being hauled away. Her jokingly sarcastic reply (with matching rolling of eyeballs) was "kay wara man napalit dinhi"!

That got everyone laughing with various remarks like "waray kami kwarta" or "pobre man la kami" or "pan-export at" and so on. Oh what a jolly 'rural-enterprise' morning.

Now.., if I told you how much 1 kilo of that "small fish" was (yes, 'small fish' na yan sa kanila)... you will all the more hate those 'fish traders' or 'middlemen' in this country!

Aw, I got a short video clip while approaching that scene:
Da! This fish harvest and vending scene was a great morning experience on this trip.

Potong is truly a "university of nature"!

But let's get moving.
