Mapanas To Araw Beach

Done at Mapanas, it was time to head to my final destination of the day - the Sun!
Do you know where that is? That is Araw Beach, Brgy. San Antonio, Gamay Northern Samar! Its in Gamay, but feels nearer to Mapanas. Maybe it's midway between them.

Yep, it is named Araw Beach, that's why I jokingly refer to it as "the sun"!

And don't get eggzoiteeed! That photo was my first click, upon arrival this afternoon. There will (aw there shall) be more of that later! For now, be informed, that is one of the best 'still fresh and unadulterated' among white-sand beaches on Samar Island!

Note, I said "one of the best". Playing safe tayo dyan, kasi baka meron pa tayo hindi nakikita in these pacific-facing towns! Samar is big, hidden gems may still be hidin'!

But as I always do, let's start from the very beginning... I was in Mapanas, and then?

My Ride (Mapanas to Araw)
And then Buyungaw offered to drive me from Mapanas to Araw at no extra cost. Da! Why would I say no, right? I did not even ask why. Aba that's still about 9 kilometers!

So, yes na agad, wala nang madami pang uru-iristorya pa!

How and When did this happen?
My "contract of carriage" with Buyungaw was from Palapag to Mapanas only. That is because, I initially thought of walking around poblacion, before heading off to Araw.

But I didn't walk around. I went joyriding around ALL their streets! So, after watching the manang winnower, I asked to be dropped at that corner by the municipal hall, so I could hail another scooter. Curious, Buyungaw asked "kay tikain ka pa sir"? Yun na!

I said, I was already going to find accommodation at Araw Beach - since I was done roaming Mapanas, thanks to him and his scooter. And he said "ako na gad la liwat"!

So... onwards more with Buyungaw! Amidst good roads unlike at Western Samar!

Wonderful rolling fields of green when the road is not by the pacific shoreline.

Along the way I saw signage that pointed a road to an ECO PARK. Hmm, listed!
But as I did so, Buyungaw told me that place in there is the Mapanas MRF. Ah okay.

Wait! Do you know what an MRF might be? If you're a Filipino, I am sure you've seen that abbreviation many times - everywhere. MRF means Materials Recovery Facility.

What about it? It is a place (sometimes even just a bin) where people (barangay level encouraged) collect and segregate their household wastes for recyclable materials.

It's a well-intended environment-friendly effort, though it's not gaining much traction yet. There are "disconnects" in its full and beneficial implementation. May kulang pa!

But let's not discuss basura in my blog hehe! Seriously, I think that's part of RA9003.

A few meters more, and my driver (yes, si Buyungaw) said we were already about to leave Mapanas area of responsibility, and enter Gamay jurisdiction. Aw, that was fast!
As he was saying that, I took a photo of where we were - a quiet foresty area, about 830kilometers from Luneta, and still 12kilometers to reach the Gamay town proper!

Yep, that is what the kilometer marker says (circled in blue).

Hey, do you still remember The Kilometer Marker? I was told it was the first story on the web, about the yellow little post on our roads. Social media wasn't that busy yet.

One of my early stories na ginulo ang 'buhay life' ko! Dinumog ako ng napakaraming "more related questions pa po, please..." from national media writers and researchers!

Nagpapaalam pa kasi sila in those days - even just to quote a line from your stories. Eh I was a busy "executive" that time. Now, iba na. Kahit sinong 'content creator' lang (dumb or otherwise) can copy you and post it in their "#shorts" or "#reels" as if kanila!

Whatever, bahala them! Basta, let's keep learning while roaming!

Back on the road, as we entered Gamay, it rained a bit, as we passed by Brgy. Anito. Driver went a bit fast, I stopped using my phone (not sure yet if this is water-proof)!

Next thing I knew, the scooter was already running on the sands of Araw Beach.

All I could say was "oh my goodness, oh wow, putangina ang ganda, kahusay, kaupay"!

My final picture on this "scooter ride" with Buyungaw? That first photo at the top!

But, let's talk more about Araw Beach, in my next story!
