PAL's Econolight Fare: A Rejoinder

Remember what I said in a previous post about this fare? Well, now it's happening! They've started to tweak it to suit competition. Though not as straightforward as Cebu Pacific's, its good enough for us the travelers! See all about it here! So what gives? Well, for starters, I tried looking for a flight MNL-CEB one-way on 23APR10. What did I get? On PAL's Econolight, I could get it at PHP1,150 which becomes PHP1,288 after taxes. Its a 6PM flight (prime if you may). On Cebu Pacific, same day and destination, the cheapest available is PHP1,285 which becomes PHP1,378.40 after taxes and its a 1:55PM flight (not good for those who want to take lunch on the dot)!

I Made It To Dumaguit

Image
'What is that place', you may be asking? My reply will probably be "yeah, what is that place" hehe! But I went to Dumaguit anyway, just curious, as that same question came to mind -- "ah what is that place"? How did this happen? Ah well, I was walking around Kalibo with nothing much or nothing 'major' to do one afternoon. I actually was to see the Sampaguita Gardens (New Washington) once again. To make me smile once more, at the countless toys, figurines, artworks, etcetera - the Precious Moments way. However, instead of a jeep bound for New Washington, first I saw already being boarded was going to Dumaguit. I asked the driver if I could take this ride just to the Sampaguita Gardens, since Dumaguit is (I learned) beyond that point. He said yes. I also asked what's there to see/do in Dumaguit for tourists. He shrugged and said there is a sea port but there are no ships today. I further asked what ships dock at that port and where from. ...

Kalibo Transit

Image
Hello all! Some of you probably think, being 'in transit' usually applies only to our travels abroad, right? Add me in, as I also thought that way! You know, the likes of "on our way to Moscow we had to 'transit' in Bangkok, since there are no direct flights from Manila", or the likes of "we had to 'transit' in Seoul on our way to New York, as the fares are lower than the direct flights from Manila". "Transit" or "Transfer"! And we all know the drill, right? The next thing that happens is we ask "ha transit, ilang oras? ano kaya pwede gawin dun, ano pwedeng makita? pwede bang mamasyal?" - and so on, right? We all plan for it! However, for local trips, we don't even bother to ask those questions, right? Examples: not many of us even bother to see Batangas City on our way to Puerto Galera, di ba? Not many too (if any) would also consider roaming around Matnog while waiting for a RORO. Same with Cabanatua...
