Guinpandayan View Deck

My roam of the northeastern towns of Samar Island continued. After the Rakitdakit Rock at Palapag, my scooter ambled the southward run to the next town, Mapanas.

It is just about 9 or so kilometers. But there are always things-to-see along the way, right? Right. And I didn't anymore check my list - my driver knows them - plus more!

As I marveled at the seemingly serpentine form of this coastal highway, Buyungaw (yes my driver!) was telling me about a waterfall just on the roadside, but "dry" now.

But that waterfall topic was quickly 'shelved' (because it has no water now anyway), when we again saw, a number of rocks and boulders on the pacific side of the road!

Plus, where there are no fallen boulders, the snake-like road really got my attention!
Do roads really have to sway like that? Am just curious. I don't despise them. In fact, as passenger, I like invariably curving roads (when the pavement is smooth lang ha?).

Every ride is more exciting with those gentle left and right swings. Sway or swing as in pag-indayog. Hindi shake as in pag-alog ng sasakyan, tulad ng sa Western Samar!

Nahi-among na liwat hi Weste. Kay DPWH, tuhaya gad niyo it Maharlika Highway!

Anyway, as if to answer my royal highness (yes, ako yon), I think building a road that way is probably dependent on the terrain or topography. Following natural contours.

Para tipid - more economical. Para maraming... [alams na].

Then I saw that we were already at Cabatuan - southern-most barangay of Palapag.
Hmm, I thought that was fast. Driver said we were even slow since he wanted me to enjoy the scenery. I checked, it took us 9 minutes for about 7 kilometers. Slow nga!

And indeed, I was enjoying this scenic panoramic ride. Now entering Mapanas.

After about 4 or 5 minutes from that Cabatuan NHS, scooter stopped, to veer left.
All I said was WOW! Driver kept talking as he maneuvered. I heard a "view deck", but I wasn't listening again hehe. I got off and already took that shot as he tried parking!

We were crossing the road to see this, a something-view-deck? I didn't clearly hear.
Heard, but not understood. Attention wasn't on the driver but on many other things! The view, the view deck, the height, the corner, the danger, the big bike, 2 big bikes!

Awrrr! Na-excite! It felt like I was in another country!

I actually left Buyungaw and crossed the road ahead, alone! And he said "ingat sir"!
When he said that, I was already shooting 1 of the bikes - without asking permission!

Nairita nga yata si owner, ayaw na ako palapitin to take more pics. Yes me ganun!
Alis na daw sila, papunta pa ng Guiuan. But a fan is a fan - and will insist on talking!

So, even if in fact they were already leaving the place, I still kept talking to him hehe!
And I was a bit successful in that 'area of consideration'. Master tayo dyan hahaha!

My driver helped pull him out of parking position. I did not - so we can keep talking!
The longer they stayed, the more we could talk! Was that "Cultural Identity Salience" working again? Maybe so heheh! Because as a tourist here, it felt like I was abroad!

What did I "identify with" through-him with-him and in-him? Being Catbalogananon, or being big bike aficcionado and being a roamer / traveler? Those would probably be it.

Sorry na mano, I'm a fan of your big handsome toy. Aw sige gad upod ka na la liwat!

When they were gone, my driver asked if they were my friends. I said: "no, ni hindi ko sila kilala"! But I also said "I salute them for what they are doing", Roam Samar Island!
They started in Catbalogan; came to this place (probably via Catarman); proceeding to Guiuan; maybe onwards to Sulangan; predictably home to Catbalogan, via Basey.

Then they'll have circled Samar Island! Nice di ba?

Hmm, how did I know so many details in just 117 seconds? Ah eh, as I said, master tayo dyan. Di ninyo naitatanong, that was my first MBA - "Master in Being Atrevida".

Anyway, wait teka anay daw... where was I? Ahehehe!

Ginpandayan View Deck (old spelling Guinpandayan, pronounced same way). This:
It's a dilapidating lookout point, but who cares, as the great views remain the same!

Buyungaw told me, that remaining pedestal was a Cory Aquino monument. He said it was ruined by typhoons. In my mind I said 'and probably vandalized by humans too'.

Well, there's no point putting it back, the whole cliff itself is falling apart. Eroding!
You can just scrutinize these last 3 pictures. There are telltale signs, that in the near future, we may have to seek those "fantastic views" elsewhere. Everything is falling!

Though admittedly a great vantage, the viewdeck is precariously situated anyway. It is at a curving road summit, with high angle climbs - and not enough parking space.

When the crowds come, accidents will happen. So you go now, before the crowds!

What is there to see anyway? Uhm, just the Pacific Ocean and some rocks but wow!
That rock far at sea is the now famous Pinusilan Rock Formation & Blue Lagoon. If you stare a little more, you'll even see the 'concrete boardwalk' connecting it to land.

Oh well, so I liked being at this view deck. The views are really great on a sunny day. I wonder how the views are during a storm hehehe! Ay, wag na yan. Sunrise nalang!

By my estimate, sunrise should be coming from the horizon above the mid-segment of that boardwalk. Oh wowness, that would probably be awesome. Ok, bucketlisted!

Now I have a reason to come back to this view deck.

Let's get going!
