Miss Universe From Iloilo Airport
So, ganoon na nga... I was inside the Mabuhay Lounge, their TV was playing the live broadcast of Miss Universe. Oks lang naman - but I heard some commotion outside.
It was an excited roar with clapping and cheering. Hmm, very easy for me to discern what it was! This country always does that on Beauty Pageants or Pacquiao Fights!
I knew it! Most everyone, passengers, crew and employees were fixated on the TVs!Oh the final three was just announced! This is that rare moment where every mouth in this country is zipped to deafening silence - only the TVs would blare any sound!
Ah, seryosong bagay yan. Open your mouth and you'll get those murderous glances! People intently listen to what each final candidate has to say in that "final question"!
I almost laughed out loud when: while Catriona was saying "I work a lot in the slums of Tondo Manila..." a 'usual' airport announcement was coming in, but someone who knows how-to, pressed the local gate microphone without speaking - to override it!
Silence achieved! Only the TV was heard! And all applauded after her answer!
Hey I caught that on video! Somewhere at 00:02:19 was when she started saying "I work a lot..." and somewhere at 00:02:30 you will hear the "ding" sound of the public address system but no announcement came out. That's what I meant with override!
Well, at about 00:02:39 the damn "ding" sound came again, and it was not anymore 'suppressed', so all that my phone caught were generally the airport announcement!
Haiszt! At least the video captured people cheering after she answered. Promising!
I will put that video here soon!
You will notice that in most other segments of the video, the airport announcments kept coming-in so Steve Harvey's voice was being drowned. Yet no one really cared!
Filipinos, I observed, consider it important to listen to their candidate's final answer! Of course, after that, they (we pala) have to witness THE announcement of winners.
We know TV programs, live or not. There is an intermission before "announcement" and Steve said Neo was singing. I took time to revisit my Arroz Caldo at the lounge!
There were noticeably few people inside Mabuhay Lounge this time, even if their TV was also tuned to the same event. Maybe it was/is because the TVs out at the pre-departure areas are bigger and clearer. Aw sus, even the lounge staff were also out!
So, therefore... hehehe, when I saw that Neo's song was almost done, with the top 3 beauties also about to finish their "final walk", I went out again, to capture reactions!
I will also put that video here. Promise!
So, The Philippines' Catriona Mercado Gray is 2018 Miss Universe. Congratulations! Aw, the rest is history and more of that event will become part of Philippine History!
Ang saya! Umuusbong ang nationalism pag me mga ganyang contest 'no? Ay teka...
This Iloilo Airport is becoming too memorable for me. I remember, I was also at this spot years ago when a plane plunged into the Hudson River. I saw it on TV, here too!
Hah, I wonder what event will I next witness from this airport!
Tara let's go home muna!
