Ronn's Grilled Tuna & Sashimi
An interesting place to talk about among friends, colleagues and family. Why? Ay, it has positive & negative extremes, yet many folks keep salivating about. Include me!Let this be a 'study' on eateries as businesses or enterprises. And yes, something to ponder-about for us travelers - as to what we want to eat where - when in Tacloban!
Ronn's Grilled Tuna & Sashimi is rather new in Tacloban. I say that, since I frequently pass by that corner (Burgos & Sto. Nino St) since 2014, and I've only seen it in 2018.
Where the car is (at right) is Sto Niño St. To my left and right as I took that shot was Burgos St. Yes I stood a bit in the middle of the street just for that pic. Buwis-buhay!
As you can see, the very street-corner is their grilling area. Wafts of seafood on the grill scatter around the place. Katakamtakam! Those guys are their "grilling crews"!
I dined here only twice before, and tonight I was back with 5 friends. So 6 of us!That wall is right along the sidewalk, and up by the glass windows are some of their tables. Why is it elevated? Aba ewan! I do know that inside, the ceiling feels too low.
Hey look at the right edge of the pic? Those slanting metal bars serve as a 'baluster' of the few but steep steps to the entrance door! That's one extreme you will not like!
And they have partitions in there (some are glass, some are not); tables are thin and there's no space to properly pass behind any seat. Meaning it's so cramped in there!
So, ayaw mo na? Sorry ka hahaha! Their grilled things are delectable!
Okay okay, they do have "outside seating". Look at the first picture above. In front of that red tarpaulin are tables, all the way to the entrance (at left, not seen in picture).
And guess what! It's also cramped, staff keep bumping your chair as they pass. Eto:They even push the tables to the wall when no diners occupy them - to make space.
Oh, you see the two ladies and the red trays? That's where they weigh, price and tag raw eatables you picked from freezers and shelves (behind camera, by the sidewalk)!
Now imagine if you were seated on that table in the center. It's right next to theirs!
O di ba?!
So ayaw mo na nga? Ay, their "tinola" isda best! Yes, that is fish, remember?
Speaking of "tinola", that's one of what we had during this visit. Yung nasa kaserola!I don't know what fish that was. Whether it was White Marlin [Solisugui/Malasugui] or Spanish Mackerel [Tanguigue], it tasted grand and had me delightedly perspiring!
That appetizer was I think Hungarian Sausage, but Tuna of course was a highlight! Our grilled squid was not yet around, but I had to take those photos before everyone obliterated them. And when I started eating, I forgot all about my picture-taking. Da!
For those who have tried them, the talk about Ronn's does not stop, actually.
For exmple: everyone says it's cramped. I agree. There is no parking. I agree too! It's in the very middle of Tacloban. I agree. The pinakbet is very good. Ayay, I agree too!
You would wish they are located somewhere else.
One friend said "eh di mag-take-out na lang tayo". Another said "aw, we won't see how fresh yung fish na pipiliin nila". Me: babalik pa ba tayo o hindi? Final Decision: Babalik!
Oh well... in the pursuit of heaven on earth hahaha!
= x = x = x =
Update May 2019:
It looks like they're not at that corner anymore, though we still hear friends who ate at, or called to order (for pickup) from Ronn's Grilled Tuna & Sashimi. Aba, hanapin!
