Ridiculous Language at ABS-CBN Tacloban
I think I already said in previous posts, that I watch TV not only to hear/watch news, but also to learn a language. Yes I do! On this one, I was watching the Tacloban version of ABS-CBN's afternoon/evening news. I'm half-blooded Waray but not yet confident at how I speak. So I watch/listen-to local TV/radio.But not everything we see or hear are "correct". That, we also need to learn! Sometimes, somehow, we do find idiotic things being done by idiots even at reputed institutions like ABS-CBN! We think they are manned by well-educated communications professionals, perfect in their craft, right? No, they are not!
I just learned today, that even they, have unbelievable flaws, OMG!
Not inadvertent mistakes but, ah, just see this "screen shot" (I took a shot of the TV while watching). That is obviously a quote (a transcription), of what the provincial fishery officer of Samar was saying.
How do you spell "sanctuary"? Slip of the finger? No, since when you type on a keyboard "t" is pressed by your left index finger, while "h" is by the right index finger. Hindi rin magkatabi ang "t" at "h" for us to say lumampas lang ng pindot. Clearly, whoever wrote that (hindi naman siguro yung reporter), did not learn well in elementary school - hindi nya lang talaga alam isulat ang tamang spelling ng "sanctuary".
Why do I sound so sure? Eh, he/she did it twice! Ano ito, 2x nag-slip of the finger? Estoryahe mana!
There's even another wrongly written word - "allowed" as in "pinapayagan". They wrote it "alloud" which isn't also an English word at all. But we know from the usage (context) Salazar meant "allowed". Aduy!
And did you know it's not just English that's idiotic in that quote? Pati entawon an waray, jologs gihap! No waray speaker (except him who wrote it) will consider it proper to write "amona". That is "amo na".
For the unfamiliar, that stupid transcription makes Jaime Salazar look dumb. All because the one who wrote it doesn't even know how to write in his/her Waray-waray dialect. Why is he/she with ABS-CBN?
The one who wrote that quote is not only erring as a writer, he/she is also a poor listener (to make out the correct message of a speaker). Don't they tell us they use a voice-to-text converter (it's a computer program) and blame it, since no such machine would output non-sensical words such as "sanchuary", "alloud", or "anona" that are not in any language dictionary. Howsoever we look at it, jologs gud la hira!
This reflects the reality that is ABS-CBN, and the quality of education in Region VIII. Okay la ha iyo?
Hin kamaka-arawod. Kaya tayo hindi pinapansin / tinutulungan as a region kay mga "....." kuno kita.
Nakaka-among... okay la ito ha iyo? If so, then don't ever wonder why Region VIII is one of the poorest!
Kay okay man la lagi ito ha iyo...
