Kanding Herding In Urban Areas
Nothing special, but this was such a hilarious incident I witnessed!
Walking from the Consolacion Public Market going up to V&G. I heard a habal-habal driver jokingly calling out to someone as if saying "ihawa na na" (just butcher them)!
I instinctively turned to where that driver was hollering at, while a tricycle driver was at that time chiming-in to say "lami na nga caldereta". They were joking, of course.Hesumalusep! The manong was OMG struggling, herding 4 adult goats on the road.
Ganito kasi ang looy entawon na kaganapan:
One goat kept veering to the middle of the street; one was just nonchalantly moving forward as intended by the manong; while two others kept darting to the roadside as if fleeing from danger. So the 4 little pups (not tied) were confused on who to follow!
Funny at first glance. But on-lookers (including me), felt bad for manong goat herder. I even stopped walking, to scare that adult that kept going to the middle of the road.
I observed though, all goats seemed to have no issue following the manong. Well, at least it appeared to me as such hehe! It's just that they were scared of many things!
They were distracted, alarmed or scared by various sounds (and movements) around them. That's how I interpreted the situation. Talagang me ganun? Yes meron hahah!
They were already causing a 3PM traffic buildup on this busy part of Consolacion.
Engine noise (from cars, trucks, jeeps motorcycles) were probably startling the goats - kasi baka di pa sila sanay, baka galing sila sa malayong tahimik na nayon hehehe!
There were the constant honking of trike and habal-habal drivers, there was even an ambulance that passed-by. Children and some youngsters running. Too much noise.
All those probably contributed to scaring the adult goats.
Good that there eventually was some lull, so the goats proceeded forward hehehe! And the 4 little ones followed them. Ahw, that manong was definitely super relieved!
That scene was fascinating to me. An example of how communities transition from being 'usually quiet towns' to 'noisy crowded metropolises'. Ikaw, which do you prefer?
I can imagine the near future... bawal na maglakad ang hayop sa kalsada ng Lacion - kay makatrapik. Then what's next? Maybe bawal ang buhi nga kanding sa merkado?!
Maybe. Entawon 'no?!
Until perhaps matulad tayo sa maraming bansa na: bawal basta ilakad ang hayop sa kahit anong kalsada - kelangan pa ng truck - kahit isang piraso lang yan. Ganun sila!
And oops oy! Not just any truck or pickup. Kelangan daw enclosed. Maryusep 'no?
Truck daw!
Oh well, the sigs of our times...
