Sarok Festival Parade

Mauwaw man ta ani, oi! Sori na, I didn't know. Ang edad hehe.

Past noon, on my way to the city for some errands, I stumbled upon a parade about to pass along the national road. Let us say that again, "along" not "across" the hiway!

Paktaylo! My initial reaction was 'o sh** nabuang na', for that meant a long delay. On second thought, my little alert brain said 'hmm, who knows, it could be nice to watch'!

But the practical side of my royal highness said "nice or not nice, wala jud ta mahimo ani, the national road is technically closed both ways, therefore watch nalang"! So, I did!
Na! A very important day for Consolacion and I forgot all about it? Bad citizen haha!

Maybe those things do not sink in my head yet because I'm still a 'dual citizen' - taga Mandaue, at the same time taga Lacion - but frequently in Tacloban due to Yolanda.

Haruy, not only dual citizen, triple pa!

Anyway.., trapped na, wala na'y mahimo.., watch and enjoy the parade na lang!
Shh secret lang, I don't really know them yet. Basta I know they're the town officials.

Watching town gatherings, like festivals, is one way of knowing people and learning about their culture. Example? Valentine's Day is Lacion's Founding Anniversary pala!

And on this day the Sarok Festival is celebrated. Ayan, I'll remember that!

At least I know Sarok, and the festival. I've read up a bit on that during Pasigarbo.

Sarok is the hat made of bamboo & banana leaves with a conical crown and originally a wide brim, like what the mayor is wearing. Narrower brims are a modernized style.

Noted Sarok Weavers (suppliers) mostly lived and crafted Sarok in the upland areas of Consolacion - to be near their raw materials. Many in Brgy. Tolotolo still do today.

Sarok is synonymous to the Sadok or Saduk on many Visayan Islands from Panay to Samar - even the Maranaws; Salakot of the Tagalogs; Saruk of the Sama-Bajau; etc.

They only differ a bit, especially in the materials used.

Anyway..., and so I watched...
How time flies! It feels like just a few days ago, that Consolacion Community College was on the news for having been newly opened. Look, celebrating 4th Anniversary na!

Ang firetruck, bow! Apil na kada parade all over the country. Haay Marso na pud!
Actually, by statistics, the 'Consolacion Fire Trucks' have actively been firefighting in Cebu and Mandue Cities more than this town - didto man sagad ang sunog hehehe!

Mga alalay sa mayora! Seriously, they're a very active group (kay "w/ allowance")!

LGBTQIA+ (that abbreviation is getting longer by the day)

Model Employees - model sa mga pasaway (look where they went)!
Nag-parade patungo sa Jollibee at palengke. Ganyan ang Government Employees.

Kaka-picture sa mga pasaway na empleyado, na-miss ko tuloy ang band na ito.

Eto na... the dancing groups...

Tugbongan hehehe!

At 3:19PM, after 2 hours and 2 minutes of watching, the parade's tail-end passed. So, back to 'normal' heavy traffic hehe! Yep, from the corner of Jollibee up to SM Lacion.

Oh yes na yes, this area of the national road is always congested lalo na sa hapon!

I itched to follow them to watch the showdown - that part of the competition always follows the parade. But honga pala diay, I had things to attend to in the city. Haizst!

Happy 94th Lungsod sa Consolacion.
Congrats on your 22nd Sarok Festival.
