Batu Ferringhi Beach Dinner, Penang

There are days (and nights) when you don't (anymore) want to eat at your hotel, right? Most especially if you are staying many nights, right? That is common. But where we stayed at, Batu Ferringhi, being a resort district, choices were aplenty - from other hotels' fine restaurants, local joints to night markets!

There are the famed fastfoods, if need be. But we drifted to seaside restaurants, for the ambience!

One evening, we walked from Holiday Inn and checked-out the many choices around it. Like this one..,
Golden Thai Seafood Village looked like a famous restaurant to us. And it seemed to be the biggest in the neighborhood. Being just beside our hotel, that is the first we went to. Their menu displayed at the entrance is very extensive (so many choices). Fish and other seafoods are alive in glass tanks for you to pick your choice. But we did not eat here as there were no more seats by the beach with a sea view.

They do have some kind of a cultural show (we read that, and saw pics on a wall), but we didn't come for that. We wanted to dine by the seashore area, which were already all occupied. Plus.., MJ actually kept protesting by repeatedly whispering "ang mahal dito, at ang daming negative reviews online". Da!

So, unanimous.., we looked elsewhere!

Next and beside the above is another fancy restaurant that looked like a wooden "pirate ship". It looks like one of Magellan's galleons! But interesting-looking as it is/was, we didn't even go near it. We were looking for something by the water's edge, amid the sea breeze and the lapping of the waves hehehe!

So we walked on, until we saw this at the inner portion of the 'night market' (therefore by the beach)!
The restaurant name as printed on their menu is 'BBQ Delights By The Beach'. Walang pork, of course!

We got to sit by a table really near the sand and the sea.., but that was the only good part hehe! Look!
Do they look good? Yes they do. And they all taste great, in fairness. Especially their kind of rice - long grains and not soggy wet. Just like 'Biryani Rice' (Basmati) with a lot of flavors in it, and not spicy hot.

But the 'prawns' (shrimps lang yan kumbaga sa atin, as in pasayan 'tawon) is just 4 pieces, sliced pa!
Sinamahan ng kung anu-anong halaman at "oil-flavored" na french fries para mag-mukhang marami!

And the grilled fish.., mas maliit pa sa palad ko, jusko ginoo ko nga maluloy-on!
We laughed when MJ said "at least consistent sila, pati kalamansi hiniwa ng pagka-nipis-nipis" heheh! For the price therefore, it was very expensive. By the beach nga.., kakarampot naman ang isang order!

Anyway, on hindsight, we think it would have been better if we walked along the beach (than the road) when trying to find restaurants by the water's edge. The small eateries cook food in the same way, but cheaper. Otherwise, we should have just eaten at Holiday Inn or the other resorts. Pareho lang mahal!

And we said... "charge to experience" hehe!

Let us go 'social drinking' next!
