Beware of JAM / Tritran Bus

Readers should all be aware of this when going to Puerto Galera or any of the destinations en route to Batangas City! There is an anomaly that the bus company (or probably just their employees and without the management’s knowledge) has been perpetrating. Last February 25, 2005, being a holiday, I, together with three of my friends decided to go to Puerto Galera for a much needed weekend break. We decided to take a JAM/Tritran bus by reason of its station being conveniently located at EDSA near Kamuning which happens to be nearest our residences. This decision to take Tritran ruined our weekend! We were at the bus station as early as 5:30AM so we can take the 6AM trip. We happily rode on bus number 727, a yellow JAM liner. The aircon was great – even too cold and the bus was clean. It got readily full to capacity so we left by just about 5 minutes past 6AM. Sabin Resort Hotel Overnight

Let me start this blog entry with the word "finally"! That means, I finally got to stay overnight (again) at Sabin Resort Hotel, where I had time to take photos, and time to tell my story as I do so here and now! I am not sure I have seen this big signage in my past visits.., have I already? Ah, maybe this is new! That is by the side of the highway, right side if you're going south to Albuera, Baybay etc., although the gate to the resort itself is still some 100 meters from this area, on a public little street that turns left. This is the "gate". And that announcement / advisory actually surprised me, this being a good hotel.., Ah, that "bringing of food and drinks" dadada is an outdated autocratic commandment of yesteryears many a 5-star hotel would rather keep mum about - since they're selling rooms not "Chippy" or "Coke"! Calbayog Jeep or Tricycle?

Lets scrutinize this photo that I took at the Calbayog public market. Tricycle, right? Yep, its a motorbike at center so its a tricycle. But that's just it, about this thing’s being a trike! Actually, if you count, there are four wheels, so it is technically already a quadcycle hehe. And for all intents and purposes, it acts and serves the public like a jeep! Notice the rear tires, those are of the jeep or car types! Its not also a tuktuk, since it has no reverse gear – and it does not, can not fly on the road! Its the Calbayog version of long-haul tricycles for trips to distant barangays. Ironically (to me at least), this thing is called the "Center Cab" because, driver says, the motorbike is at center if the caja (cab)! No, they don't use it for transport within the city center since they have another vehicle for that – the real tricycle that is pedal-powered!
