Hard Rock Café, Penang

We promised ourselves we would visit Hard Rock Café (Hard Rock Hotel) after dinner. So, we did. And whatever crazy reason entered our lowly minds, we decided to walk going there. It is about 1km away!

Walking on Batu Ferringhi Road was like a stroll in the park. In no time, we reached the hotel's garden.

On hindsight, we think that stroll would even have been much better if we walked via the sandy beach! But it is also good to do beach-side walks during the day, especially early mornings or late afternoons.

Anyway, we immediately entered and enjoyed Hard Rock Café, Penang.

This hotel is one of a handful that they have all over Asia. Two of their five hotels/resorts in Southeast Asia are in Malaysia, this is one of them. What's many, so far, are Hard Rock Cafes, not the resorts yet.

This Hard Rock Café is just by the hotel lobby. It faces the road/entrance, not the sea (unfortunately)!

But most Hard Rock Cafes are walled-up all around for optimum sound quality anyway, right? No need to be by the sea therefore! Like other branches, there are vintage instruments and pictures/murals on display. But this one has so many screens behind the stage, plus those droplights that form like a ball.

I'm no Hard Rock fan by the way. I'm a 'masugid na taga-subaybay' of Filipino Bands wherever I go!

They were the reason I said as early in the morning, that I must visit this Hard Rock Cafe. Eh, I am not even fond of their music (pang headbangers) Hard Rock Café nga eh! Kaso Pinoy eh, so 'must watch'!

We observed though, this band sings virtually anything, as requested by the crowd. Pinoy eh!

Weirdly amazingly, both I and MJ think we've seen this group somewhere, but definitely not in Penang!

From the reactions of the people in the audience, we think this band (Deviate?) must be popular here.

Anyway, I need to tell you about the clientele or 'crowd' at this Hard Rock Café in Penang. The venue is by a beach (Hard Rock Hotel) in a resort strip (Batu Ferringhi), but the locals I saw (halos lahat) came wearing in their casual best, parang mga Pinoy - meaning walang naka-shorts and/or tsinelas. Pwede naman ang ganun (kasi beach area nga), kaso nga lang, nahiya ako (ng konti) na kami lang ni MJ, and dalawang puti ang naka-shorts! We were allowed in naman, and no one really cared, but dyahe pa rin!

Lastly, I said this earlier, Batu Ferringhi isn't center of town. This is about 15 kilometers or even more away from Georgetown city center. That said, walang taxi dito na basta na lang dadaaan as you wait by the roadside at 1:30AM. Buses also cease at midnight. Thus, we walked 1km back to Holiday Inn!

Still fun.., medyo tipsy na eh!
