Rosario (Northern Samar) Town Center

Just some 10mins from Lavezares , we reached this welcome signage into Rosario. This is the Y-junction entering from the west side of town. What I saw yesterday was east side. And we went straight to see this... Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Parish Church... I was ogling at it, feeling something was not quite right, when driver said "eschapeyk"! So I went to his vantage point, to see what he was disagreeing with, and I saw this... I understood what he meant - the front is really just a (the other meaning of) façade! To appease "both of us" I tried explaining that "maybe that is how they build nowadays", to which driver answered with "aw asya na, manipis, madali maruba, eschapeyk, made in china, taiwanese"! We controlled our laughter apprehensive other people might hear us! We walked to the other side as we could see there were more scaffoldings there... Look! The façade looks thick on this side! So ganun pala yun? It's just a holl...

Catarman To Allen Joyride

Image
On the road again, on a lovely bright morning! Yehey! This time I was on an easy run from Catarman for an 8AM meeting at Allen - the north-western edge of Samar Island. We knew it takes about an hour (50kms?) but we left early at 6AM, so we'd have enough time for the morning traffic (kids going to school) as many schools are by the highway. Then, still ample time for a hot 'tinola' breakfast at Allen, and be cool until the meeting! Nice plan. All set. And here we go! Let's start with this corner going out of Catarman towards the west.. Going straight is back to where we came from yesterday - Lope De vega, and onwards to Calbayog if you like. While my route today goes rightwards to the end of runway 22 (or ...

Getting Lost With Names - Rosario

This topic started with this article Who or what is Rosario? Whatever that word means, there are 5 towns in the country named Rosario. First is the town in the province of La Union (Region 1). This Rosario is the province’s southernmost town in its border with Pangasinan – thus, many of its residents actually speak both Pangalatok and Ilokano! While like any coastal town in Pangasinan and La Union, you can find a lot of dried fish here, note that export quality wood furniture and furnishings are the best products to find in Rosario. This town lies in one of the approaches to Baguio. The next Rosario is a little town in nearby Cavite Province (Region 4A). This Rosario which is just about 30 kilometres or so from the Metropolis and kissing the Manila Bay is host to an export/economic zone. So it is more of industrial town than anything. Okay, there are resorts there but you’d rather go elsewhere, right?! Then our 3rd Rosario is still inside Region 4A, in the province of Batangas. This on...
